I was heading to a meeting in Nashville, Tennessee and the original plan was to fly. Unfortunately since that plan hinged on available seats flying standby, we had to make a last minute change of plans when he realized I wouldn't make my flight. There's a risk with flying in the south in the summer with the pop up thunderstorms and when flights started getting canceled, he suggested we come up with a new plan. We drove to Asheville that night and since one of my teammates was driving through, I ride the rest of the way with her. Coming back was a whole different adventure...
I know that Asheville has amazing choices for restaurants that are gluten free and I wanted to ensure we took advantage of the one night there with a fabulous restaurant. I reached out to my friend Amy, who also has celiac and has a house in the mountains of North Carolina, to find out where should we absolutely eat, without having reservations. Yes, I reached out while we (he) was driving and we were on the way, with less than three hours notice. Amy made a few suggestions, but Zambra is a place she seemed to favor a little more, so I took her suggestion.
Normally I wouldn't necessarily post pictures of the drink menu, but they had so many awesome choices, I felt not sharing it would be a complete disservice to you. This was also one of the things she said we had to check out.
This place did not disappoint. They have fantastic tapas style options and we had a hard time deciding because of how appetizing so many of them sounded. We settled on Prince Edward Island Mussels, Braised Heritage Pork Cheeks, Coddled Farm Egg with Corn Soubise, and my boyfriend enjoyed the special for the night, which I wish to goodness I had written down, but was probably pouting because it sounded so yummy and I couldn't eat it.
Normally when we go out to eat, we have wine with dinner, but I was too intrigued by their yummy sounding drinks to not enjoy at least one. I had the zambarita and my, was it good! It went down a little too easily though, so I switched to wine. My sweetie enjoyed beer since he wasn't adjusting to accommodate me, as he often does. I appreciate it, but I can't be the one that removes something he genuinely enjoys, like beer. And yes, we finished the evening off with their special dessert for the night, featuring chocolate, of course, and with caramel swirled on top. Yummo!!! I'm not even getting into the phenomenal ambience of this place.
