Memorial Day at the Vineyard with My Favorite Vet
Memorial Day was a wonderful day to meet up with my guy for lunch as he was heading out of town. He suggested a place I hadn't been to before, a nice vineyard that travel wise happened to work out perfectly.
We had an amazing lunch at Childress Vineyards in Lexington, NC. Despite Mother Nature's attempts to jade the view, this place is absolutely gorgeous. I unfortunately didn't capture the view as I knew it just wouldn't come across the same in pictures on a rainy day. This just gives me a reason to go back again.
As always, I did a quick check on the web to see what information I could find regarding gluten free options. My date also did the same, as well as checking the Find Me Gluten Free app. (Mad props go out when somebody is so considerate to do this background check when making plans.) The menu states at the bottom to ask server about vegetarian or gluten free options. This often means they are familiar with protocol, but always call to check first. I can say that in this case, the answer was yes.
Our server stated that the protocol was to review the menu and let him know which dishes I had questions about. Their menu is seasonal and reflects that they choose some amazing dishes to specialize in without being overwhelming. This is the menu for spring 2018 we had to choose from.

I had Strawberry Frisée Salad topped with Grilled Ahi Tuna along with a Pineapple Mimosa. Often when I get a salad, I have the tendency to either ask for stuff left off or just eat around parts of it. I looked over this description and was elated that exactly the way it was described was how I wanted it. Woo hoo! Yes, the mimosa was yummy too. The one thing I did forget to do was to ask for the salad dressing on the side. It naturally tends to sink to the bottom without any dressing on the top, but it was delicious!
My date had Blackened Salmon with Israeli Couscous. Clearly, I wasn't getting near his, but he said it was good. For those dining with people that have concerns everything at a restaurant that offers gluten free will somehow taste different (yeah, I know they're out there), I can promise this is another example of that not being the case.
After lunch, I was curious about the beautiful property and wanting to look around. Due to the rain, we were able to do a little bit of that and enjoy the beauty, but it definitely calls for another trip back. I recommend checking out the menu ahead of time and if you see a few options that interest you, definitely go enjoy a meal there. Or take some extra time, do the wine tour, do a wine tasting, or as another couple we met, stay a few days on the property and really enjoy the quiet surroundings.
